I've learned something new...indeed, there are a lot of ways to learn any language apart from podcast resources.

Grazie mille! Mi piace ascoltare i 3 tenors! Fabulous! Thank you Kristy for sharing this site with me and THANK YOU Signora Hales for working so hard to bring this wonderful Italian language to us! Ciao! Sharee

Andrea Laforgia

Yes, Dianne, that 'O is Neapolitan and stands for either "il" or "lo":

'O gnomo = Lo gnomo
'O sole = Il sole

dianne

Thank you, Andrea. Is the 'o article, which I have never seen before, from the Neapolitan dialect? Does it stand for "lo"? A presto. D

Andrea Laforgia

Correction: "bella come IL sole!"

Note, however, that it should be 'O sole mio (with an apostrophe). That 'O is an article: "Il sole mio", it doesn't mean "Oh My Sun":

'O sole mio / sta 'nfronte a te!
The sun, my own sun / It's upon your face!

dianne

I think the guys in Il Volo are great, but I haven't heard their cover of O Sole Mio. I'll be sure to download it. Grazie!

Chelsea

Signora Hales,

Buongiorno! I enjoy reading your blogs. Have you heard of Il Volo? In addition to Bocelli, they are my favorite Italian vocalist. Il Volo sings a "hip" version of "O Sole Mio" as well. Like Bocelli, their music make me smile come il sole.

Ciao, a presto,
Chelsea
