@Jann Yes, "fannullone" is a standard Italian word, normally used in both spoken and written language, even in formal contexts. The word "fancazzista", instead, is very informal, ruder. I suggest you not to use the latter.

So many good new words here, Dianne. Thank you! I've heard "fannulone" used for slacker, but not "fancazzista"--the latter is perhaps ruder/stronger?
