We also learnt from our Italian teacher to use the phrase 'capi di marca' for designer clothes. Also in everyday Italian 'marca' seems to be used when talking about about a designer label.

Thanks, John. The typo was my error. A "firma," as you know but other readers might not, is a signature--or, in the case of clothing, a designer's brand, like Armani or Gucci.

Hello,
I'm enjoying receiving your blogposts, and learning plenty by doing so. I believe I spotted an error in "Stuff happens in the Italian language." The very last phrase is: roba fermata- designer clothes. I believe this should be roba firmata- with an 'I" and not the brakeman's "e."
I look forward to exploring your posts further!
Distinti saluti,
John Rose
